Pretzel: Local or national food?

Most foreigners would connect traditional German food with a Pretzel – a heart-shaped bread with salt grains. The Pretzel actually originated in Europe in the early middle ages, and while it is a baking tradition from the Southern states of Bavaria and Bad-Wurttemberg, it has also spread to the upper regions of Germany, French Alsace and Austria.

But what is Germans‘ opinion on the issue? Is the Brezel seen as a local or a national food? We’ve tried to find it out and get this image corrected – if necessary!
